3 Nephi 12-14—The Savior continues his ministry to the Nephites, teaching them the Beatitudes and announcing the law of Moses fulfilled. These are incredible chapters and the culmination of hundreds of years of Nephites prophecies. Our buddy Al Doan decided to hop in and join us for this episode.
2 Nephi 31-33 – We finish 2 Nephi with some fantastic instruction on the doctrines of Christ, how to feast upon said doctrines, and how we can press forward with faith and endure to the end. It’s not always easy, but luckily, Sunday School Bonanza is here to, um, make you smarter. Mackenna Gallacher is with us.
Philippians, Colossians, Philemon – Patricia Doxey is back with us to talk about what makes these later Pauline epistles different from those that precede them. What is the “admonition of Paul”? Why did Paul need to correct the practices of the Colossians? How can we remember to keep our focus on Christ in our worship?
Matt 13 – Why did Jesus speak in parables and how could a learned ruling class not understand these parables? This lesson focuses on parables, in general, with particular emphasis on the Parable of the Sower. We also talk about many of the parables found in this chapter of Matthew. Kurt Francom of LeadingLDS joins us.
John 3, 4 – Jesus teaches Nicodemus that we must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God. Why? Why does baptism matter? Why do ordinances matter? Jesus later visits the Samaritan woman at the well and teaches about living water, the way to find true life and salvation. What can we learn from the way Jesus taught? Al Doan is with us for the first time in a long time.
Matthew 3-4: Rachel and David Zobell join us to discuss John the Baptist’s role in serving a forerunner of Christ. How did John prepare the people? Why was he necessary? What did he preach? Why was Christ baptized when He was perfect? Satan tempts Jesus in the wilderness, but Jesus resists. How can fasting strengthen us?
Luke 2: Sure, we just had Christmas a few weeks ago, but now’s a chance to revisit the miracle of the birth of our Savior. Patricia Auxier helps us break down some of the ostensibly basic aspects of the Nativity story and the countless miracles associated with it.
Jeremiah foresees the latter-day gathering of Israel, but what does “the gathering” really mean? How are we hunters and/or gatherers? Later, the Lord describes having his law written “in the hearts” of his people. How are we affected when we have God’s law actually written in our hearts? Erik Johnson is with us.
Isaiah 54-56; 63-65 – Ever wonder why Mormons have “stakes”? Isaiah is why. How do we not just enlarge out stakes, but also strengthen them? Sometimes too easily we focus on proclaiming the gospel but not perfecting the saints. How will Christ gather his children? What will change with the Millennium? Rachel Murdock is here and she’s awesome!
Isaiah 50-53; Mosiah 14-15 – Erik Johnson joins us for a discussion on the messengers spoken of by Isaiah, as well as the countless prophecies regarding Christ’s atonement taught by Isaiah. These are some of our very favorite passages of scripture and there are tons of valuable insights if you take the time to read and ponder.
